Wavenote as a Granola alternative
The meeting notes app this category is currently organised around. It sits on your Mac, hears the call without anything joining it, and turns what was said into notes you can ask questions of afterwards.
What Granola does better
Granola is free to start and better at almost every part of the meeting job a team would measure. It runs on Windows, iPhone, Android and a watch, shares folders with colleagues, connects to Notion, Slack, HubSpot and Zapier, and its chat across your notes is in the free tier rather than behind a subscription. It holds SOC 2 Type 2. If more than one person needs the same set of notes, Granola is built for that and Wavenote is not.
Where Wavenote is different
- The recording becomes text on your Mac. Granola's own security page names Deepgram and Assembly as its transcription providers, and OpenAI and Anthropic as its AI providers, so the words are read by companies you have not met.
- Notes are files in a folder you picked, on the Mac or in iCloud Drive. Open them in Finder, move them, keep them after you stop paying.
- The same $4.90 covers dictation into any Mac app, which is the thing Wavenote was built for and Granola does not do at all.
